Ooty is roughly 270 km and a six-and-a-half-hour drive from Bangalore, usually via Mysore, Bandipur and the Nilgiri ghat climb. The scenery is the point — tea estates, the toy train, Doddabetta viewpoint and the Botanical Garden.
The Nilgiri climb has tight bends, so vehicle choice matters. A Force Urbania is our preferred recommendation here: newer platform, better suspension on the bends and a quieter cabin for the long stretch. A Tempo Traveller also works for larger family groups. Avoid booking a low-slung sedan if you value comfort on the ghats.
Seasonal timing: March to June is peak summer escape, September–October post-monsoon is greenest, and December–January gets cold and occasionally frosty. Book a round trip with a waiting driver so the same person who brought you up also brings you back down.
