Mysore is the most-booked outstation route from Bangalore, and for good reason: it's short, scenic and doable as a same-day round trip. The run is about 150 km via NH948 and takes roughly three hours each way depending on traffic and the Mandya stretch.
Leave early — a 6am departure gets you to Mysore by 9am, ahead of the day-trip crowds. The classic one-day itinerary is Mysore Palace, Chamundeshwari Temple on Chamundi Hill, lunch, the zoo (Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens), and Brindavan Gardens in the evening for the musical fountain show, before the return drive.
A sedan is plenty for two to three people. For a family of five or six with luggage, an SUV or Innova is more comfortable; for a larger family group, a 12-seater Tempo Traveller keeps everyone together. The fare is quoted per kilometre for the total round-trip distance plus a driver daily allowance (bata), with toll and parking billed at actuals.
